Alphabet Album Video Tutorial

We are so excited by the response we have received to our brand new Mom*tog by PCB line, THANK YOU!

We have received a number of questions about how the products work and I thought a video tutorial is only fitting. In the video I cover how to add an image, change the text and edit the colors of a design. You will need Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to work with the products. Each product description details which lab the item was created for and the size of the items.

We welcome your comments, questions and suggestions and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Introducing…. Mom*tog by PCB

We have been working hard for weeks on an exciting new project with Drew Bittel founder of Mom*tog. Drew had several great visions she wanted to bring to the market so we have teamed up and released the first two lines and just in time for the birthday of her beloved site!

Drew has been a pleasure to work with the entire time and I hope she is as thrilled with the final product as I am. Each of the lines was very well thought out, designed, tweaked and created with the highest standards by all 3 of us. We hope you find these new items to be unique and helpful in both your own homes and the homes of your clients. Without further delay….

Mom*tog ABC Line by Photo Card Boutique

The idea behind this collection was to create a photo album similar to the board books you would by your baby. Each item was meticulously laid out paying special attention to your needs. You have the ability to customize all of the words to fit your families needs. It includes several album and books plus card templates, image boxes and more. Shop the entire ABC line here.

Mom*tog Baby Line by Photo Card Boutique

If you follow Drew’s website you have seen her memorable letters to her kids. She wanted an album to house all those letters and milestones along the way. With that idea she came to use asking for a timeless book that would hold those memories with the photos she has taken so they are never forgotten. The line includes and album, mini books, card and more!  View the entire line here.

But wait! Both lines are on sale for 25% off the next 3 days! Hurry over and visit today!

My Entry – OMHG Entrepreneur Giveaway

Hey there PCB readers I am coming to you today with a different kind of post you see I am entering the contest at Oh My Handmade for a new biz in the new year!

In the beginning…..

Hi there! I am Angie, wife, mother and entrepreneur. I live in northern Colorado with my husband and 3 girls ages 3, 9 and 10.

I opened PCB on September 1, 2010 after months of planning and preparation. Each day brings a new sense of accomplishment along with a new set of challenges. A typical day includes answering email, working in Illustrator and Photoshop on products, video conferencing about new concepts, sketching ideas for new products and procuring inspiration in my numerous journals.

2011 was a year of growth!

In March of 2011 I recognized I just couldn’t keep up with the demand and expanded the site to include a second designer, Katie Worsham. Since Katie has joined the team it has become very clear that we work well together. We collaborate on product ideas, bounce around business plans, help each other when we are in a design rut and even serve as a sanity mechanism for life’s little hiccups.

In May we teamed up with fellow photographer Drew B in our Soul 4 the South fundraiser where we raised more than $1,000 dollars for those affected by the floods and tornadoes in the south.

Over the summer we proudly became part of the the Millers Lab Design Market as template designers. This not only was a huge accomplishment but it also added credibility and continued growth to the business.

We truly feel as though our customers mean everything. They talk – we listen and work to improve on their suggestions. Our goal is to offer a quality product at an affordable price. Just one example of this was last summer, in listening to our clients wants and needs, we found a way to make changing colors on our templates simple as the click of a mouse. We quickly went through and updated all of our designs to reflect this method and our customers have been singing us praises ever since.

We participate in giveaways related to the industry and donate to charity auctions as a way to pay it forward to the photography community. We have tried advertising on several photography forums and blogs and found the expense out weighed the results.

Over the course of 2011 I worked to continue my education by taking 3 Illustrator classes to improve my skills in the program. I also read multiple business books and even took an online blogging class (which I haven’t put to very good use).

Realizing we have weaknesses too!

Speaking of the blog, in 2012 it is one area that REALLY needs to be focused on and developed. Earlier in the year we hit a jackpot with our daily color posts. It’s been a real treat seeing them pinned all over Pinterest and watching our following grow and grow. However it isn’t enough. The blog needs some serious TLC. I have a few ideas for regular posts I would like to incorporate into our rotation and I would like to make it more personal too. I struggle with writing but vow to make it a priority in my business and put that blogging class to work!

Another area I really struggle with is social media. Yes, we do have a good following however we lack interaction from our readers and customers. I’m committed to finding the solution and increasing communication on a personal and business level.

Looking to the future….

The new year is guaranteed to be full of new projects! We are working closely with a few photographers to bring fresh products to the market. We are also pursuing a huge dream of becoming designers for a card and wrapping paper company.

Winning this would be an amazing blessing! Our logo is crying out for attention! We have tried several different “looks” and nothing has really made my heart sing. Having an outside voice give us some insight and guidance would be a HUGE benefit to the brand (and my sanity).

A business mentor would also be a dream come true. Katie and I work well together bouncing ideas but an outside perspective would be incredible! Having a business mentor on the outside to explore new ideas, critique our business moves, reflect on what is or isn’t working and most importantly to be accountable to could be life changing!

Thank you so much for offering this fantastic giveaway, it was a pleasure reviewing the journey of the past year! Good luck to everyone who enters!

Very Jane Christmas Templates

I am so excited to bring you a deal at Very Jane. If you haven’t seen the site it is a wonderful deal site for the boutique business, usually the items are handmade and full of cuteness! I have made so many purchases on this site and I always look forward to my email from them each morning!

Today is the beginning of our 3 day deal of Christmas and holiday photo card templates. These are different from what we offer on the site as they are PNG files with a slot for your photo. They are ment to be simple and fun ways to update your family and friends geared towards the regular family and meant to be printed at your favorite lab.

Three Adorable designs to choose from!

What you need:

You will need a photo editing program such as Photoshop Elements (get a free 30 day trial here), Gimp or most computers come with a “paint” style program that will more than likely work. My recommended method is Photoshop Elements and I will be using it in my example below.

How they work:

Within 72 hours of your purchase you will receive an email from me with details to download your purchase. The download will be a zip file with four templates in it, two 4×6 and two 5×7. You will first need to open your zip file, this usually is just a double click with your mouse. Once they are unzipped you can select the card you would like to add your image to.

Step 1. Open the image in your program of choice, tutorial uses Photoshop Elements

Step 2. Go up to the tool bar and select File > Place. Browse your computer and select the image you would like to insert into your card.

Step 3. Your image has been added however it is above the actual card design but no worries, it’s a simple fix!

Go to your layers menu, should be on the right side of your screen. Drag the photo layer BELOW the card layer.

Before:

After:

Now you card will look like this! If you need to resize your photo or move it you can do that with ease using the move tool. To resize the photo and maintain the proper proportion hold the shift key while you drag the corners of your photo.

Step 4. You can add the family name in your editing program of choice or make it even more personal by signing them with a Sharpie when you get them back from your lab! If you decide to add the text in Photoshop Elements here are the directions:

Select the type tool in your left hand menu.

Click on the card where you would like the text and begin typing. Once you are finished you can move the text or adjust the size to for your needs.

You can now upload the cards to your favorite lab and send them off to family & friends! If you have any questions please feel free to write us at anytime.

Thanks!

Guest Post – Product Review of Kirby Template

Birth announcement frontA Fresh Save the Date Makes an Equally Nice Birth Announcement!

I’ve been itching to use the Kirby template for a while now–I’m a sucker for the yellow and green color combo–and realized it would make a perfect newborn announcement. After visiting my client’s home for their newborn session I knew it would be a great choice!

Meticulously Prepared Design for Easy Customizing

The template is laid out very well, with clear labeling on each layer and is super easy to use. I just placed in my pictures, changed the romantic-looking type of the original save the date template into something simpler, adjusted the picture size (and the corresponding frame layers) to fit the whole family in, modified some working and ta-da!

My clients LOVED it, I was totally impressed by how great the printed version looked (thanks MPix Pro!) and at what a fantastic template Photo Card Boutique had created.

Haven’t heard about the Tiny Light Foundation? Well here is more info!

The Tiny Light foundation is a non- profit organization that operates across Canada and will slowly hop into the USA in the late fall. We provide professional photography for children (and their families) who are faced with a life-altering diagnosis. We match them with a professional photographer who donates their time and talent to provide a photo session that is tailored to the child’s needs. The family is provided with digital negatives and professional quality prints. With approval of the family, the Tiny Light Foundation writes a life story of the child and their family to help inspire, heal, give strength and hope. This story, along with a few photos, is showcased on www.thetinylight.com.

Our mission is to show the true beauty and sprit of our tiny light children through the means of professional photography. When you look at our photos you will see the magic, love, and true beauty our photographers have captured. We hope to bring acceptance and awareness to our world, along with lifelong memories to our families by our specialized service.

Each child is different and special in their own way. When dealing with a serious illness or life altering disability we know that sometimes it takes much more patience and time then a normal in house studio can provide. Each Photographer is hand picked and selected for that special reason alone.

We are always looking for people to help spread the word. If you have a tiny light or know a tiny light please refer us. If you are a photographer and would like to donate your time and talent or studio space please visit our website.

Millers Lab Amazes Again!

Millers Lab is hands down my favorite lab, they are ALWAYS bringing the next best thing and they once again came through for the photography industry! You will be spoiled with the best customer service and the fastest turnaround … I am talking lightning fast!

But before I begin let me give you a disclaimer * I AM NOT a product photographer* although I did try my hardest  :)

Meet Premium Bamboo & 100% Recycled

Millers launched TWO brand new papers and they are oh my gosh AMAZING! You are thinking only a card designer could get this excited about paper but rest assured once you have handled them you will swoon too! The beautiful thing about the new paper is they are both the perfect weight, ultra luxurious and eco-friendly.

Premium Bamboo features a lovely warm base and a soft, rich watercolor texture. This isn’t your typical watercolor, this is a velvet soft, cloud like finish. It looks amazing printed, can you tell it is my absolute favorite finish? It is a heavy weight 150# card that is 100% tree free!

Next we have 100% Recycled who is equally nice. This is not your typical recycled paper having an off white finish, it is a fresh, bright white paper. The 100% recycled matte finish and 130# weight are wonderful addition to your studios paper lineup.

Every press order placed now through August 31st will receive a FREE sample of the brand new paper. If you would like to buy a sample you can also do so here in the billable products. You can learn more about the new papers (and see one of my templates) right here on the Millers Blog.

Special thanks to the wonderful Drew B Photography, Laura Winslow Photography and Chelsea Beck Photography for use of their fantastic images. If you are interested in any of the templates showcased below simply click the image and it will take you right to the template in the appropriate store.

Win a Sample Set From PCB!

Leave a comment below letting me know what your favorite paper is and why. One lucky winner will receive one set of the 4 cards below mailed to them PLUS the matching templates for free! Giveaway ends on Monday, August 22.

Standard Business Cards vs Luxe Business Cards

Do you love our business cards… but also love all of the new fun luxe design printing options on the market today? Well you are in luck! All of our designs are compatiable with any luxe design with little to no work on your part.

Many Luxe designs can be printed AS IS on the business cards.

This is a screen cap directly from WHCC ROES software. As you can see this design works perfectly AS IS for the Caroline Limited Edition business card template.

This design works great too! Only change is make sure you move the address block 4 to 6 clicks to the left. The key to making standard designs fit luxe designs is simple! Make sure all vital information and elements are INSIDE the dashed lines.

As you can see a little more work needs to be done before we can print this item. BUT it is simple to change! All you need to do is move the address block to the left 4 to 6 clicks, down 4 to 6 clicks, and change the font from 10pt to 9pt. You will also need to change the font size of the logo name.

Volia! Now you are ready to print this great design as a LUXE business card.

Its really quite simple to change ANY of our designs to fit into the new LUXE designs offered by Miller’s Professional Imaging and White House Custom Color!
